Recently, many girls could not make it to the merit list for the post of school lecturers in screening test conducted by Haryana Public Service Commission despite the fact they scored more marks than their counterparts.
Sources said that boys who got just 71 marks figured in the merit list, but girls had to secure minimum 76 marks to get the same post. For the post of English teachers, males came in the merit list with a score as low as 50 marks, while the cut off list for women was 62 marks.
In what could spur a controversy, the government department has allegedly started limiting women hiring for just 33% posts and they are not even being considered for the rest of general category posts.
Due to this irrational implementation of reservation policy, males are getting 67% of teachers posts in the state. According to sources, this has been happening since long but nobody in the government department has bothered to rectify the mistake.
Meanwhile, CPI (M) state secretary Inderjit Singh, who raised the issued before the state government, has demanded that the authorities should make immediate changes in the reservation policy which violates the basics of our constitution. He has also demanded an apology from chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
The state government in 2005 had announced 33% reservation for women for the posts of school teachers.
While the government scored brownie points with this announcement, women leaders say they feel cheated as the faulty implementation is reducing their share in government jobs. Source:The Times of
